RAF took over on 1st April, becoming
Training Depots Nos: 201, 202, 213,
which were later renumbered 56, 57,
58. These were home to: the Airship

Wing, the Wing Aeroplane Repair
Section, the PT School, and the
Wireless Operators' School.

Churchill-Trenchard Memorandum
established the RAF College.

The College opened using the old
wooden huts, on 5th February.
No.4 (Apprentices) Wing housed until
Halton was ready in 1926.

jet-propelled aircraft made its maiden

Incendiary bomb cracked a tile on the
roof of The College. This was the only
damage due to enemy action.

Whitley P5052, of No.3 OTU, hit
college roof in fog, and fell into
lecture room. Crew of 3 killed.

No.1 Signals School renamed No.1 Radio
School, in January.
There were 7000 service personnel
& 3000 civilians on the Battle of
Britain parade in September.

Red Arrows aerobatic team moved in.

Western Band move in from Locking to
become The Band of the RAF Regiment,
alongside The Band of the RAF College.

Red Arrows aerobatic team move to
Scampton.
|
The name of the village is said to derive from the
Crane family estate. The three crane birds from
the family coat-of-arms are now incorporated in
the arms of the RAF College. Also the airman's
NAAFI is named The White Cranes Club.
