In September 1938, 209 young hopefuls arrived at
RAF Cranwell as the 1J7 and 1M7 (38th) Entry to train as Instrument
Makers (0J10) or Wireless Operator Mechanics or Wireless Electrical
Mechanics (0M10). Because of the shortage of skilled
tradesmen to meet the war requirements, the course length was reduced
from 3 to 2 years and the Entry was renumbered as the 0J10 / 0M10
(38th) Entry. The training for the 0J10 element was then further
excellerated and they Passed Out in June 1940 as the 0J6's. During
their training the Entry gained 31 from Senior Entries, 6 ceased
training, while 9 of their number were re-classed to later Entries.
The 0M10's Passed Out in October 1940.
