In September 1951 some 176 young lads arrived at No. 6 Radio School RAF Cranwell as the 4M9 (69th) Entry of Aircraft Apprentices to commence their training to be Ground Radar, Ground Wireless or Air Radio Fitters. The Entry included 3 members who came from Ceylon, 20 from Pakistan and some 154 from the U.K.

During their training they collected a further 21 from the 68th Entry, making a total of 197 who served with the 69th Entry. Of these 111 passed out with the 69th, 22 passed out with a later Entry, 16 became SAC mechanics, 4 returned to Boy Entrant training, 43 ceased training and the disposition of 1 is currently unknown. You will have noticed the use of the word "some" qualifying quantities as unfortunately putting together this webpage some 56 years later records, where they exist, do not all agree, nor do personal recollections.

As part of the MOD planning towards ceasing Apprentice training at RAF Cranwell, the title of No. 1 Radio School was transferred to RAF Locking in October 1950 and Cranwell became No. 6 Radio School. On the closure of No. 6 Radio School Cranwell in November 1952 the Entry re-located to No. 1 Radio School RAF Locking from where they passed out in July 1954.
